Work Hours Calculator - Calculate Hours Worked

Calculate work hours from start time, end time, unpaid breaks, overtime rules, and hourly rate. Free weekly work hours tool.

Hours Calculator

Enter start and end times to calculate work hours, breaks, overtime, and optional pay.

This work hours calculator helps employees, managers, and small business owners calculate hours worked from real shift times. Add start time, end time, and unpaid break minutes for each day, then review total work hours, regular hours, overtime hours, and optional gross pay.

Use it after the week has happened, when you need to total actual hours worked. If you are planning a future schedule instead, use the work schedule maker. If you need a broader tool for any type of elapsed time, use the hours calculator.

How to Calculate Work Hours

  1. Add the workday start time from the schedule, clock, or timesheet.
  2. Add the workday end time for the same shift.
  3. Subtract unpaid breaks such as unpaid lunch.
  4. Repeat for each day that needs to be included.
  5. Check overtime if total weekly work hours exceed your threshold.

Work Hours Formula

Work hours = End time - Start time - Unpaid breaks
Weekly work hours = Sum of daily work hours
Overtime hours = Weekly work hours - Overtime threshold

If weekly work hours are below the overtime threshold, overtime hours are zero.

This week totals exactly 40 work hours. If the employee works another three-hour Saturday shift and the overtime threshold is 40 hours, the extra three hours are overtime in many weekly overtime setups.
